in the workshop...
I'm loving necklaces in shades of black and gold for fall...
This lady, made from jet and recycled brass chain, looks just as chic with a simple tee and jeans as it does with a body-con LBD for date night...
The perfect lady like piece with a twist.

five weeks and counting...
Where has the time gone? I can't believe I'm about to have a baby!
Ahhhhh!
What were we thinking?
Clearly...we weren't! (that was a joke, mom)
In all seriousness...this might be the most exciting, happiest, terrifying, mystifying, amazing moment in my life.
Every time this little guy kicks, moves, punches and wiggles--which is all the time. He basically never stops moving. Ever. We call him Wild Man these days--I involuntarily smile (inside and out). I just can't wait to meet him!
And while we make the last of our preparations for our newest addition and get to know him after his arrival, I will be closing up shop for just a bit.
But don't you worry! I'll be back with some fabulous baubles as soon as I get the hang of things. I have already started working on a few Fall and Holiday items and I can't wait to share them. (I'm wearing one of them while I type. It's gorgeous!)
In the meantime, to celebrate all of these magnificent changes in my life, I have decided to have a sale. Normally I'm in Europe at this time of year and there are 'Soldi' signs everywhere...(well, that's Italian for sale, so that would only be in Italy but you get the picture.) Since I won't being seeing any Soldi signs this year, I am making my own:
From today until September 1st, the following bracelets are $50...
Yay!
Just email me at asouthernchild@gmail.com for purchasing/product info. Happy shopping!!!

inside the workshop...
Meet Eloise.
She is a combination of precious stones, glass beads, pearls and repurposed metal chains. This morning she was hanging by our window and the sun caught her beads in the most beautiful way. I tried to capture the way they were sparkling with a picture...
I wish you could have seen it. These pictures don't sparkle like she did...
Eloise will be for sale later this week in my little shop.
Come by and say hello...

inside the workshop...
This holiday season I managed to stay quite busy. Below, a few of the Holiday orders I had the joy of fulfilling...
This first group was made for a very dear NYC friend.
(this is actually only half of her order. she should be a professional shopper)
These necklaces were made for a wonderful woman that I met this summer. We kept in touch and cooked up an idea to use pieces of jewelry from her mother and grandmother to make something new for her daughter and sister. They came out beautifully...
This one had a removable brooch
This last group was for a very dear family friend in Alabama. She wanted to make a bracelet for each of her granddaughters, incorporating their favorite colors and birthstones...
and one for herself :)
Have an idea for something special? Let me know...I'd love to help!

MEET THE DESIGNER: KILEY B DURHAM
By Regina Lopez / December 7, 2010
I had the pleasure of meeting Kiley in a cute SOHO cafe last month. I was so impressed with her amazing jewelry and overall enthusiasm that I immediately knew she had to be one of Bellaga’s first sellers! Get to know Kiley a little better in our questions below...

lou...
Meet little Ms. Lou...
This dainty little necklace is very new to the pack...
She is made of all types of teeny tiny beads (less than 8mm in size), including amethyst, quartz, topaz, agate, lapis, pearls...just to name a few.
Finished off with a chocolatey brown leather bow, she looks great with a t-shirt and jeans or a little black dress (Don't be thrown by the brown bow. Lou absolutely goes with black.)
I like to wear my hair up and place the bow at the back of my neck...it looks quite romantic.
Visit my shop to see Lou and the entire stock of jewelry for sale.

exciting things...
are happening for the southern child these days.
You may have noticed that things look a little different on the blog this week. I have been meaning to change it up for a long time, but I could never figure out what to do or what it should look like. I eventually decided to leave it alone. I figured when the moment was right, I would know it. Well the moment was finally right...
This week I opened a jewelry shop!
Yay me! (I'm not normally one to toot my own horn, but...TOOT!)
And in honor of my jewelry shop, I changed my blog to match. I am very very excited, and hope you like my little piece of retail web space! I will be adding new designs to the shop very soon (I have only listed a few so far), so be sure to check back in often.
Jewelry makes great gifts (hint, hint)...
In addition to the shop, I am also creating a website, which will be a place for all of my other design and art work. It is a work in progress, but hopefully everything will be up and running very soon. I am a one woman show and web design is definitely not one of my talents, but I am doing my best!

I've always believed that anything worthwhile takes a village, and this phase of my life has been no different. This would have never happened without my friends and family. Thanks for all of your love, support and endless words of encouragement over the past year.
Another special thank you to bellaga.com for inviting me to be a part of their fantastic new website. I am so very excited!!!
Stop by and check everything out (shop a little, perhaps...) Leave me a note here on the blog and let me know what you think...I welcome any advice and suggestions. This would have never happened without you!

Amelia
You all know I'm partial to bracelets, but I occasionally like to make necklaces, too.
Here's a pretty one I made this week. I like her a lot...
| amelia |
She is made from shell, quartz, pearls, rose quartz, pink opal, amethyst, Czech glass...
and a pretty butterscotch leather bow.
I think she's a beauty!
