mission accomplished...

The wedding went off without a single hitch, and my bride was absolutely gorgeous.  Here are a  few shots of the dress in progress on Friday night...

the lace had to be carefully cut apart
and patched together to fit along the hem of the dress

next, the lace was stitched to the dress and the edges were trimmed to less than 1/16"

we added lots of netting and horsehair to create volume underneath

At 8 pm the last button had been sewn and the last thread clipped.  It was finally time to deliver the dress...

Friday was a very long day, but it was worth every second.  There is nothing like making a girl's dress dreams come true, especially when she is as lovely and kind and wonderful as my dear friend.

is my little skirt???

I just finished making it...I make these little skirts a lot.  They don't take a lot of fabric or time.  

Well...this one took a little extra time.  I cut a ten inch hole the lining when I was trimming the seam allowances--I'm not even sure how that's possible--and had to do a major patch job.   Then, I put the wrong length elastic in it...

It looked like a maxi skirt for a toddler. 

Anyways... 

She turned out cute in the end and that's all that matters.  

Look at the little ruffle on the waist.  

I just love it.   

I am especially proud of this skirt because she only cost me $2.50!

  

The cotton/lurex plaid is a remnant I found in the clearance bin at the local fabric store in my hometown.  As luck would have it, all remnants were an extra 50% off the day I was shopping, and it was just the right amount to make a festive little skirt!    

I am wearing her to a little thing I have to attend in Soho tonight.  She is going to look great with boots and a cardigan...

Yay!  I love bargains!

gifts and wishes: pillow talk...

If I have the time, I try to make as many gifts as possible...

Big dork.  I know...I'm okay with it.

Pillows are one of my favorite gifts to give and receive.  I once heard someone say that they like to bring home fabric from their travels and make pillows.  That way the memory of the trip is always nearby and it becomes a part of home...I really like that idea.  But I don't think that the fabric has to be from exotic places...it can just be a beautiful color or maybe have a special memory attached to it.

I recently made this one for my very special aunt.  She gave me this beautiful Japanese fabric that she has had since the '60's.  I decided to make her a pillow so that we could both have a little bit of the beautiful fabric.  I hope she loves it as much as I love her!

Pillows are extra easy to sew and they can be decorated with fabric paint, buttons, ruffles, bows...I'm a little partial to bows, if you haven't noticed.  The bow above is cut on the bias and the edges were left unfinished to make it extra drapey and soft.
