happy friday...

Don't forget to kick up your heels and have a little fun this weekend...
I would if I could but the only thing kickin' on me these days is a little munchkin in my belly.  (Hard...I might add.)
In the meantime, I am dancing vicariously through BHLDN's new video...

One day I know I'll be able to do more than just waddle again!

Be sure to check out their gorgeous site when you have a chance (and watch the video in full size...embedding issues today)...I want everything on it.

Happy Dancing!

am inspiration: oh baby...

I told my mom about a month ago that I had officially fallen off the fashion train.  I tried to fight it as long as I could but one day I realized that everything I currently own fits into two categories:
#1. the sausage casing:  any version of a tight and stretchy tube dress/top that I can pour myself into.  I have strapless, one shoulder, sleeves, no sleeves in a variety of colors and lengths.
and #2. the modified tarp: anything big and floaty (also known as the "moo-moo" when worn by a preggars).  I've tried to stay away from this category as much as possible as I was once told I looked like I was having twins while donning a beautiful white silk maternity top at five months pregnant.  I decided it was the big fluffy shirt's fault and never wore it again...
So after months of pregnancy and muggy summer heat, I finally gave up my spot on the fashion wagon (temporarily, of course) and hopped happily onto the baby train.  Since then my shopping days have been exclusively for the new man in my life (and just as exciting as the last time I bought myself a pair of Louboutins).  With less than a month to go before the little bambino arrives, our house is quickly filling in every corner with blankets, binkies, onesies, bottles and everything else in between.  It's crazy how much a girl's life can change in a year...or nine months to be exact!
Below, a few of our favorite new things from our fav local baby shop, Giggle...

oh boy...

am inspiration: sunny days...

I know I have barely been present in the blogosphere this week...let's just say it wasn't my week.
Fortunately for me, my week ends today, as I am on a plane to Barbados to celebrate my lovey dove D's birthday for the next five nights.
(no...we don't normally go to Barbados to celebrate our birthdays.  This one is a biggy...he might not let me stay in our villa if I tell you how big...)

Anywho, this week is finally looking up!  And I can't wait to put on one of my most favorite ensembles in the whole world: an little dress, a pair of sandals and a big ol' hat.  It is most certainly time to give the coat and scarf combo a little break!

sweet hearts...

How sweet are these little hearts?
They are hand made by Caribbean Craft, a Haitian company that repurposes recycled objects into unique works of art like these little paper mache heart ornaments.  Not only does 10% of the proceeds go to the HAND/EYE Fund, but also it provides sustainable employment for hundreds of local artists...

A sweet Valentine's Day gift for an even sweeter cause...

Modern Day Marilyn...

Well, not quite.  I don't have her hair....or her measurements...
sigh...
But after watching The Seven Year Itch this past weekend, I couldn't help but share a few images.  Marilyn Monroe is so unbelievably gorgeous.
And then there's that dress...

Makes me want to be a modern day Marilyn this summer in white dresses and red lips...
And fabulous shoes, of course.

I would love to have this sexy goddess dress for hot city nights...
Perfect with flats or statement shoes, like these Guiseppi Zanotti's below.
And unlike, Ms. Monroe's halter version, this drapey little number is wind proof!

Don't forget the lipstick...

resolution recap...week 2

I made it through the second week of my spending freeze basically unfazed...
Well, besides a small snacking meltdown.  I didn't realize how many snacks I bought each week until I didn't buy any at all.  By mid-week I really wanted--scratch that: needed--a little piece of candy (I love Twizzlers, Sour Patch Kids, and recently, Swedish Fish...basically any form of chewy sugar)  or just a couple of chips (any kind.  I never met a potato I didn't like).  I tried being responsible and eating fruit instead of candy and almonds instead of chips.  Didn't work.  It just made me want the bad stuff even more.

Anyways, here's a quick look at a few highlights from this past week. Thanks to the snow and frigid temps, it has been a quiet week...

Friday:  BFF and I made breakfast plans, and I almost immediately remember I can't eat out.  Boo...I haven't seen her in a month.  Fortunately, she was willing to come over my apartment (in the middle of a freaking blizzard, I might add).  I made a spinach and mushroom quiche, and she brought soy lattes.  It was delightful.  Actually, it was really nice to have a cozy breakfast without rude waiters and a crowded restaurant.  We could actually hear each other.  Plus, I made a few healthy changes to the quiche recipe, and it was delicious, if I do say so myself...
Healthier breakfast, girl bonding, money saving...this is easy!  Yay!

quiche a la ki...

Saturday:  While primping for the wedding, I notice I'm at least two months over due for a cut and color.  Three actually.  More like four.  I look like a witch.  I momentarily think about covering my grey roots with mascara but remember it is snowing and have a mental image of me hailing a cab in a storm with black stuff running down my forehead and shoulders.  Decide to just deal with it...

Wednesday:  It's 3pm and I really want a snack.  There is literally no junk food in this house!  What I wouldn't give for a salt and vinegar potato chip right about now...Note to self: in the future, plan in advance for ridiculous personal experiments.  In other words, stash emergency junk food in the closet.
(hmm...maybe I'm a little crankier than I thought...)

Thursday:  I. NEED. CANDY!  grrr...If it wasn't so cold outside, I would've probably already broken the rules.  I guess this frigid weather is good for something...
(I think I know what next month's resolution needs to be)  I wonder how much money I spend on afternoon snacks every week???

----------------------------------

Five things I would have bought this week:

1. new watercolor brushes... I have somehow lost all but a really grungy one.
2. these gorgeous red shoes...  (well, maybe not.  but a girl can dream, can't she???)
3. Sushi. Dying for it.
4. Nivea Goodbye Cellulite Serum.  If you haven't tried it yet, go now!  Immediately!  And buy it (and one for me).  I don't know what it does, but I can't live without it...and I'm out.  Thinking about declaring a medical/hygiene emergency, but I'm trying my hardest to be honest.
5. Candy.  Lots of it.  (clearly)

---------------------------------

Lesson of the week:  I eat too much junk food.  Boo.
I promise to try harder...double boo.

sigh...

she keeps me busy...

A child after my own heart, Santa brought Miss B a sleigh full of DIY crafting kits, and it wasn't very long before she had enlisted me in a post Christmas crafting-palooza...
We have made owls from felt, flowers from tissue paper and we are still trying to figure out the knitting kit (I'm not coordinated enough to knit)...

Aren't they fun?
Even Miss B gave them a thumbs up.

gifts and wishes: for the wee ones...

I don't know what it is about these little things that I love so much, but they are so cute!

Sing-a-ma-jigs are little plushy singing characters that sing, chatter, and harmonize with other Sing-a-ma-jigs.

find a retailer here

There are about 12 different little critters to collect...

I personally love the one in the argyle sweater...so preppy!
