a space for D...

Since we began looking for a new apartment, I have mentioned a few of my plans--plans that are growing exponentially by the day, I might add--for our someday new home...
For me, a creative nook with a fabulous chair, and for Monsieur l'Pea, a bedroom with a little whimsy and a dash of mod.  But what about D? My poor husband has been only slightly overlooked in all of my grand scheming--well, according to him, that is.  He has begun joking that he is getting Pea and me a new home and he will just have to stay in the old place so that he won't be in the way.  (My response is usually something like, "Waaaah...poor D."  To which he usually pouts for about thirty minutes before moving on...we repeat this cycle on a weekly basis.)
Little does he know that I have a plan for his little corner in our new home.  He has always wanted an old fashioned wet bar, complete with all of the tools and supplies to make a great cocktail.  It's funny, though, as we are wine drinkers, not cocktail drinkers.  We do, however, watch a lot of Mad Men and they make drinking liquor look so chic...and so normal, for that matter.  I guess that is where the inspiration has stirred from...
I'm rambling...back on topic:  I have decided that D shall finally have his very own wet bar in the new Chez Pea!

I have been collecting inspiration for quite some time now.  Here is a look at a few ideas so far...

What D would really love, is an actual piece of furniture like these beautiful pieces I found on Pinterest...

As cool as they are, I don't think that it is practical to add another piece of furniture to the mix right now.  We already have two storage units with extra furniture on top of what we have in our current place.  It is probably more practical to build a bar on top of a piece of furniture we are already using like these...

However, I am having a bit of a crush on vintage bar carts recently.  Again, I think it's the Mad Men effect.  Maybe we could work one of these into a corner somewhere...

And then there are the details.   Much more than the furniture, the details make the bar.
Here is a collection of a few vintage pieces (all from etsy) to add to a modern bar for a perfectly retro feeling...

I love the old soda siphon and the drink shaker in the bottom corner...they are musts!

So tell me...what would your bar cart look like in your house?  Elegant with lots of crystal and silver or retro with a bit of kitsch?  I'd love to hear!

  1. My dude is dying to incorporate a stocked bar into our apartment too! I think a tray to corral all the bottles, etc. is a lovely option to start out with. But I would love to eventually have one of those cute bar carts!
